'We took our terminally ill cat to see a final sunset': After being told that their beautiful feline only has a few days left, his owners decide to make every moment count and take him to do his favorite thing - sunbathe one last time

If you get told that your cat only has a little time left, keep the heartbreak forever. Use the time you have to make them as happy as you can. 

It is much easier said than done, of course. Our cats are our everything. They are not just small and cute fluffballs living in our homes as decoration. They are our family. Our cats have personalities, they have hobbies, they have opinions. They make their opinions known. They live full lives, and they fill our hearts and our homes with more joy than we can even describe. Being told that our cats only have a little time left is our absolute nightmare. It is something that we don't even want to think about. Complete denial. For now, our kitties are happy and healthy and safe, and it is our duty to keep them happy and healthy and safe for however long they may have. And that is true until the very end. 

When the cat owners in today's story were told that they only had a few days left with their cat, they were just as heartbroken as any of us would be in that position. But they knew that they had a duty to their cat. They couldn't spend the cat's final days crying. Our cats feel our pain. They would know that something was wrong, and they would spend their last days stressed and worried about us. What this family did had to have been so difficult, but it was so, so worth it. Instead of sitting at home and crying, they took their kitty outside one last time to help him do one of his favorite things in the world - watch the sunset. And you can see in the kitty's eyes not only how happy he was that day but how happy he has been with his owners his whole life.

    We were told Max was had a few days at most left today. We aren't sure if he's going to have another night, so we wanted to make sure he got every bit of sun left today.

  • This is the look. You know, just by seeing these eyes, that this cat lived a full and happy life with his humans. And at the end of the day, that is all that matters.

    mikehawksux It's been a week since I had to say goodbye to my best friend of 8 years. Hang in there. I'm so sorry. I'm so so sorry. ETA: by best friend I meant my cat. I had him since he was 5 weeks old. Even bottle fed him. His name was Pico. He was not a human. But my grief is all the same.

  • It's worth it. This moment might be full of pain, but it is so small in comparison to how much joy they bring into our lives. Having pets, even if it means losing them, is worth it.
